"Holy communion Message" (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

by souljm 2013. 6. 5.

(1 Corinthians 11:23-26) “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus on the night he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you: do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”

When I was thinking about communion, I humbly looked at this text again. And I meditated deeply upon again the meaning of sharing bread and drinking this cup as we periodically have done.

If we take a look at verse 24, we all know sharing bread and drinking this cup mean that we remember the body of Jesus Christ. But we want to understand a little bit more what does it mean to remember Jesus Christ?

Every moment in daily live intentionally try to remember his sacrifice and the blood that he poured out.

There is no truth more important than that we are save by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ

Another thing that we should remember through this communion is the love of Jesus Christ.  In other words how much God loves us.

Romans Chapter 5:6-8 says “ you see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this. While we were sinners, Christ died for us.

So, We have this communion because we should remember his unlimited love for us once more.

I found out something else when I was looking at verse 26. This communion does not simply end with our remembrance of Jesus Christ. What Jesus commended us to do is to proclaim the his death until he comes. Actually the more important thing is telling people the news about what Jesus did for us. Through this communion, we remember once more that Jesus gave us this mission.

Eating the bread and drinking of the coup means that we can live and survive in this world. We need a deeper understanding of why we have to live. Why God provides us food to live. The final reason is that we must proclaim the gospel to people. I realized that this is what God truly want.

So, I want to conclude my thought with this

Before we take this communion,  we want remember once more How much Jesus loves us, and that  we live in order to tell about Jesus as he commanded us at his last communion with 12 disciples.
